The Client and RoleOur client is a data analytics consultancy with offices across the East Coast of Australia. As the Ruby Developer, your role involves collaborating with the in-house team to expand an existing Rails application, enabling the input and modification of additional data types. Our client is in search of an adept Rails/Ruby developer with strong teamwork and collaboration abilities. The position can be either full or part-time (0.6 FTE minimum), ideally based onsite at the Australian National Botanic Gardens in Canberra. However, we also welcome applications from remote and hybrid developers, provided they are open to attending crucial meetings in person. While a background or interest in the names and taxonomy of living things is advantageous, our client values candidates who can intelligently address requirements, irrespective of their prior experience in the domain. Essential CriteriaDemonstrated prior experience developing high-quality online interfaces for data entry and update using the Rails framework.Excellent technical skills including some or all of Rails, Ruby, Postgresql, JQuery, Bootstrap, Minitest, Git, AWS hosting, and Jenkins.Ability to work productively in a small team environment. Willing to explain, listen and discuss code and tasks. Effective written and verbal communication skills.Candidates must have valid full Australian work rights Desirable CriteriaExperience or interest in working with biological taxonomy data including names published in accordance with the provisions of the International Code of Nomenclature for Algae, fungi and Plants (ICN) and the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN) would be an advantage.
