As an Staff Engineer in the Cost and Economics Payments Org you’ll need to be passionate about payments. You will lead through influence and collaboration to transform concepts into reality. Your deep understanding of how money moves between merchant platforms and payment processing partners, including payment gateways, processors, acquirers, card networks, and issuers will be needed for ideating, advocating, and driving cost efficiencies across our payments platform. You’re expected to be comfortable with ambiguity, and help the team enjoy working backwards from highly ambiguous starting points by leveraging data, running experiments, and following a structured approach to build business use cases that influence a diverse team of engineers, data scientists, finance, compliance, legal, and business experts. You should be able to guide and navigate the team through technical and regulatory constraints while simultaneously distilling and communicating complex subject matter to payments and non-payments stakeholders. You will have to be passionate about guiding a high performing team and creating a unique culture. You will be expected to lead the team to work with engineers in the US to tackle these complex challenges.

A Typical Day:
Work closely with your stakeholders in the US for alignment and shape strategies and technical directions.A typical day starts with a daily-standup, where you get an accurate view of the team’s output, their technical blockers so that you can provide the right support engineers to move forward in their tasks without any friction.Embedding Engineering best practices and being the goto person for all the engineers to technically guidance.Finding ways to improve collaboration and communication within team and within org for a strong team culture.Since most of our initiatives/projects are going to be driven by business savings, you will have to understand Product, Partnership and other XFn orgs to get the project prioritized on their roadmap also if needed.If required there could be seldom international travel.Strategising and brainstorming opportunities in some evening meetings by being a part of larger forums (Like design reviews, all hands, sprint demos etc) could help you in driving effective technical insights and guidance to lead the engineers to success.Last, but not least, you’re likely to be the one responsible for recruiting the right engineers by taking interviews and adding new initiatives to drive innovation and tech excellence for the overall India site culture.
This Role Requires: Your expertise:
BS, MS or Ph.D. in computer science or related field, or equivalent work experience.9+ years of relevant engineering work experience and 4+ hands-on technical management experience.Experience with building payments or relevant systemsStrong coding abilities and experience with architectural patterns of large, high-scale applications.Experience architecting, building, and maintaining highly available services in a large service-oriented architecture (SOA).Familiarity with patterns, libraries and frameworks for building and testing services, and service-to-service communication.Experience in partnering with other leaders in setting product strategySuccessfully partnered with Product, Data Science, Finance, Legal, and/or Compliance functionsTrack record in partnering with recruiting to build incredible engineering teamsActively coached and mentored team members in their careersConsistently made culture choices that positively impact all of engineering
