I am currently recruiting for an exciting opportunity to join a successful and growing laboratory software (LIMS) vendor as a .Net Software Developer, working on the design and development of one of their key software products used in analytical laboratories.

OverviewMy client are a successful laboratory software company that has been in operation for more than 30 years. The laboratories that are in their focus are those that perform a wide range of chemical analysis on samples using a combination of classic standard methods and modern sophisticated analytical instruments or analysers, which often are combined with automated liquid handling systems or robots. Today’s modern laboratories generate a large amount of data (the results of the analyses) and the value of this data is enormous - of the order of $1 Trillion pa. The laboratories using these products are typically in the Clinical, Pharmaceutical, Water, Environmental and Chemical sectors.Their products support laboratories to reduce the cost of result generation, improve the speed of result reporting, reduce errors and meet regulatory compliance, by improving the quality of data, and the efficiency of producing and managing it.

The main product which this role will focus on, is a software application that manages the quality of analytical data. It is used widely in the UK, especially in clinical laboratories and water companies. Sales are increasing steadily in continental Europe and my client have the intention of ultimately selling it globally.The software typically runs in laboratory-wide, multi-user configurations on corporate SQL Server or Oracle databases. It can also be associated with a single Instrument PC running with SQL Server Express.The algorithms embedded in this product use statistical techniques to ensure that the analysis performed by the labs is being performed correctly. Statistical methods are also used in an add-on module which calculates Analytical Uncertainty of Measurement.There are some architectural changes necessary to improve the product and reduce support tickets as it exists now. However much wider possibilities will open up as we embark on a longer-term project to develop a web version. This would allow an easier and less expensive remote implementation, and open up many more opportunities if it can be delivered as software as a service. The Senior Software Developer is expected to play the key role in this transformation.

RoleSenior Full Stack DeveloperInitially:1. To get the required depth of product and application understanding, you will get involved in implementations of their product, both remotely and occasionally on customer sites.2. Contributing to the design and development of big fixes and new features, under the supervision of the Lead Developer.3. Working alongside the support team to provide third-level support to customers, including making changes to the product as required.As knowledge of product grows and confidence builds:Work closely with the Product Manager to design and develop and test new features.Contribute to the transformation of the product to web-based technologies.Contribute to the wider product suite, particularly integrations between our productsTo perform this role you will work closely with the wider product/implementation team, and specifically with the Lead Developer and the Product Manager.GeneralFlexibility to work from home or one of our offices, as preferred.Occasional site visits to engage with customers and support implementation work.Minimum RequirementsA bachelor’s degree in a STEM subject5 years’ experience with a .NET language and Visual StudioDetailed understanding of object-oriented programming principlesDemonstrable knowledge of database design and managementAbility to travel to customer sites as requiredBeneficial but not EssentialExperience with SQL Server or Oracle DatabaseSoftware testing experience (including automated Unit Testing)Project Management skillsUnderstanding the statistical basis of quality control and uncertainty of measurementExperience of dealing with Corporate IT DepartmentsExperience with software supportExperience with onsite fee earning workKnowledge of Analytical laboratoriesKnowledge of LIMS
