Senior WordPress Backend / Frontend Developer

Clockwork seeks a Senior Software Engineer who has deep experience in all aspects of WordPress software development.

Candidates for this role should have a passion for all things WordPress and should have extensive experience writing HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP. They should have significant experience building accessible and performant sites with WordPress. They should enjoy working on a small, cross-discipline Agile team with a dedicated set of clients.

Candidates will be expected to lead and participate in client and team meetings, playing a pivotal role in driving projects to completion. Candidates will also be expected to be a catalyst for team growth through mentoring, sharing insights, and helping to resolve technical challenges.

In addition, candidates will be expected to actively contribute to an environment of psychological safety and a sense of community.

We expect someone in this role to:Write high-quality HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP that needs no reworkBuild, update, refactor, and maintain custom themes and custom plugins in WordPress. Bonus if you have experience with custom block development, full site editing, and block themes Debug complex backend integrations and help diagnose and resolve performance issues on slower WordPress sitesCultivate relationships with clients, develop empathy around their pains and gains, and understand their desired outcomesProvide technical leadership and guide discussions on approach, architecture, and implementationCollaborate with a cross-functional team of designers, engineers, and strategists in an Agile environmentDeliver solutions that are right-sized and that use best practices in front-end code building, accessibility, OWASP, browser compatibility, and SEOExplain complex concepts in ways that are easily understandable to technical and non-technical audiencesWork on a small team supporting multiple clients, sometimes up to 11, while logging a minimum of 32 client billable hours per weekElevate risks on projects that would impact budget, schedule, scope, or fidelityCoach and mentor engineers on your team with empathy and unblock them when they need support overcoming a technical challengeChallenge their team in ways that guide a project toward successful outcomesFoster a spirit of continuous improvement by applying learnings from past engagements, delivering value incrementally and often, and putting people at the center of the work
