Description
The Kentucky State Board of Elections is seeking a contractor-based Apple Software developer to create and maintain an iPad based software application for the Commonwealth. The successful candidate will help deliver a state-wide solution with security and data integrity at the forefront. They will be a creative thinker who: (1) loves to understand the “why” of problems, (2) enjoys working with others, and (3) enjoys sharing and learning new software and technology skills. The State Board of Elections is a collaborative, fast-paced environment; focused on the administration of election laws and voter registration. This position will allow for remote work and daily team collaboration.
We need someone with the passion and skills to help fulfill the following roles:
Apple iPad Applications – The successful candidate must have at least three years of experience with the design, development, and maintenance of highly available, distributed, and scalable transactional enterprise systems using Apple technologies and tools such as Xcode, as well as experience in software engineering using Agile methods. Apple software applications. This includes best practices (preferably including data design and management), robust security, and user experience. Strong experience with distributed applications is mandatory and experience with networking protocols is preferred. This position is responsible for the coding of a specific application to be used state-wide. The primary responsibility of this position is to create a highly secure and networked application with very robust data retention and failover capability. This position will work closely with SBE technical staff, units of local government and other state agencies. A successful candidate will also have a solid grasp on the use of SQL databases and Bluetooth technologies. An understanding of remote administration of iPads using industry standard software such as Meraki, In-Tune or Jamf would be a bonus. Collaboration and excellent communications skills are desired.

Excellent communicator – Must be able to integrate information from people with diverse backgrounds, translate those requirements into a solution, and then communicate back ideas & solutions in language they understand. Analytical – The successful candidate can: Understand and document issues/needs into use cases. Define what a viable solution would be, including its scope. Identify what technology is needed to solve the problem/need. Break down and define the steps required to build the solution.
