About The Team And Role

Our small engineering team works on challenging problems every day. We have a culture that's rooted in constantly learning and improving, and our engineers are encouraged to think big and experiment with new ideas. Using continuous deployment, we quickly see our changes in the product and make fast iterations. Our engineers focus on creating polished products and writing high quality code by designing APIs and abstractions that are extensible and maintainable. As an engineering team, Quora also highly values development velocity, and invests heavily in improvements to tools, abstractions, and frameworks to empower developers to move faster and achieve more with a lean team. Everyone on the engineering team has a huge impact on our product and our company.

The Product Platform team is focused on making product developers (product engineers, designers, data scientists) more productive, by building tools, frameworks and abstractions that make developers' life easier. This team's projects range from building library of reusable UI components, improving frontend debugging tools, making code deploy faster, to optimizing site performance. Recently, this team led large-scale migration of Quora's legacy frontend system to React, GraphQL and Relay, and there is plenty of interesting and impactful challenges to improve our frontend frameworks and systems in this modern architecture across our AI product, Poe and the core Quora product.

In this role, you’ll be working with other members of the team across a variety of projects to improve efficiency of product developers, with a focus on supporting the Poe product. You'll work closely with Poe product teams to understand pain points and build tools to increase their velocity. You'll be working mainly with Python and modern Javascript frameworks like React, NextJS, GraphQL and Relay. This role is great for full-stack generalists who enjoy empowering other developers, eager to learn and execute in different parts of the stack.

Responsibilities

Develop, maintain and build tools that make Poe and Quora product developers (engineers, designers, data scientists) more efficientContribute to building and maintaining reusable UI components used by developersWork closely with product teams to understand pain points and developer workflow challengesDrive proposals and initiatives to address developer challenges and adopt new frameworks

Minimum Requirements

Ability to be available for meetings and impromptu communication during Quora's "coordination hours" (Mon-Fri: 9am-3pm Pacific Time). B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering or a related technical field, or a completion of coding bootcamp or equivalent work experience4+ years of experience working with large scale codebases and systems, particularly web applications and frontend architecture4+ years of experience building APIs that are used by large teams2+ years of experience working with React and GraphQLExperience with NextJS, Relay or similar modern web framework

Preferred Requirements

Experience and strong interest in building tools to support other developers, or client-side performance. This may include contributions to open source projectsInterest in working full-stackPassion for building reliable, performant consumer internet products

There are many factors that will determine the starting pay, including but not limited to experience, location, education, and business needs.

US candidates only: For Colorado based applicants, the minimum base salary range is $147,200 - $185,300 USD + equity + benefits. For California, New Jersey, New York, and Washington based applicants, the minimum salary range is $147,200 - $218,000 USD + equity + benefits.British Columbia candidates Only: For British Columbia based applicants, the minimum base salary range is $149,962 - $222,090 CAD + equity + benefits.
