Overview:
As a Ruby on Rails Frontend Engineer you will be responsible for implementing modern, dynamic user experiences in the Groupize application utilizing Hotwire and TailwindCSS. The ideal candidate will be comfortable modernizing an application with a diverse set of front-end tools and patterns and helping establish standards and practices, focused around the use of Turbo and Stimulus.
Key Responsibilities:The implementation of new functionality based on established business requirements, helping to create dynamic user experiences.Provide feedback during the development of business requirements and throughout application development to help improve the speed of delivery or overall quality of the product.This includes active communication with the VP of Engineering, Delivery Manager and other stakeholders as to delivery timelines and expectations. Participating in architectural discussions and decisions on tooling, methodology or code structure - specifically with respect to the implementation of Hotwire within the Groupize application. Write clean, secure code. Adhere to best practices with respect to application development and security.Regularly unit test code and ensure any changes function as defined in the requirements.Participate in code review, including security review of new code for all members of the Engineering team.Supporting the existing application, which may include some off-hours support responsibilities.Assist with the migration of functionality from legacy tooling (including jQuery, SemanticUI and React) to the Hotwire stack. A Ruby on Rails Frontend Engineer reports to the VP of Engineering and acts as a contributing member of the engineering team, participating in all activities related to the execution of sprints and the development of the application.
Qualifications:Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience in the field. This is a full time remote position, but may require occasional travel for company gatherings or activities.Applicants must be authorized to work for ANY employer in the U.S. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.Candidates must be located in one of the following states: MA, NJ, OH, NE, AR, CA, WA, CO, FL.An understanding of application development architectural principles, specifically those around the management and delivery of performant and well managed user interfaces. 3+ years of Ruby on Rails development experience including:Understanding of the asset pipeline and/or webpack delivery or equivalent asset delivery platformUnderstanding of key elements of application performance. Production experience with the Hotwire toolset, specifically TurboFrames, TurboStreams and Stimulus or demonstrable and robust examples of using these tools in another capacity.Experience with PostgreSQL or similar SQL-based databases. Experience with common front-end tooling including:TailwindCSSSASS/SCSSFlex-box based layoutES6+ / JavascriptPolyfills, browser support, transpilation and other common asset tools/patterns. Webpack or equivalent bundler. Semantic UI, Bootstrap or equivalent front-end frameworks. NPM / Yarn or equivalent dependency managers.Strong communication skills including the ability to present technical topics to business customers in a clear and effective manner.Ongoing interest and desire to learn new things and bring those learnings back to the team. Knowledge of the travel or meetings industry is a plus.
