This is a full-time remote position, open to anyone in LATAM.

Overview

The Senior Back-End Developer, reporting to the VP of Technology, will play a critical role in managing server-side development, handling databases, and ensuring the smooth functionality of our platform.

This position is an exciting opportunity for someone with an architectural mindset who is passionate about building from scratch, for scale. Our Engineering team is fully fluent in English and Spanish, which makes this an extra exciting opportunity for someone coming from a Spanish speaking background.

What you’ll be doing

Collaborate with front-end developers and other stakeholders to understand project requirementsDesign and develop server-side applications and APIsOptimize application logic and database queries for efficiency and performanceTroubleshoot and resolve back-end related issues and bugsConduct regular maintenance and updates to ensure system stabilityDevelop and maintain back-end components of our web applicationsEnsure the performance, quality, and responsiveness of applicationsIdentify and correct bottlenecks and fix bugsHelp maintain code quality, organization, and automationParticipate in code reviews and contribute to team and personal learningStay up-to-date with new technology trends and apply them within the organization

What we are looking for

Minimum of 5 years of professional development experience in backend (and/or full-stack), demonstrating a deep understanding of any of the following: Golang, Node.js, JavaScript, or TypeScript. Knowledge of functional programming is a strong plusNear familiarity with a variety of technologies including GraphQL, Web sockets, Kubernetes, Kafka, ElasticSearch, Kibana, DynamoDB, and PostgreSQLSolid understanding of distributed systems architecture, encompassing consensus, convergence, load balancing, data consistency, and performance/efficiency constructsAbility to design and implement APIs with a focus on performance, scalability, and maintainabilityProficiency in identifying and resolving performance and scalability issues, particularly in systems serving millions of users with high availabilityOutstanding documentation and written communication skills, capable of translating complex technical concepts into understandable, actionable insightsEffective communication and collaboration skills, with an understanding of when to lead and when to step backAbility to provide constructive feedback on code reviews and actively participate in activities such as RFC discussions, sprint planning, etcKindness, a high EQ, and adeptness at listening, communicating with, and collaborating with other team membersHigh adaptability and a strong desire for continuous learning and growthA passion for solving complex problems
