As a Backend Systems Engineer at Ford, you'll play a critical role in designing, building, and maintaining both bare metal and cloud-native backend systems that power our cutting-edge vehicle development and research initiatives. You'll work with a team of experts to develop and deploy scalable, high-performance computing solutions that support our global engineering teams, including those working on advanced driver-assistance systems, autonomous vehicles, and electrification. What you'll do...
Design, develop, and maintain our cloud-native backend systems using Kubernetes, Go, Python, and API development
Develop and implement new features and functionality to meet business requirements
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of backend systems with frontend applications and services
Ensure high availability, scalability, and performance of our backend systems
Participate in code reviews and ensure adherence to best practices and coding standards
Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues in our backend systems
Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies, and apply this knowledge to improve our systems and processes
Design and implement HPC solutions using technologies such as OpenMP, MPI, and GPU acceleration
Optimize HPC workflows and pipelines for performance, scalability, and reliability
Collaborate with data scientists and researchers to develop and deploy HPC-based applications and services
You'll have...
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or an equivalent experience in a related field
5+ years of experience in systems engineering, with a focus on Kubernetes, Go, Python, and API development
Strong expertise in Kubernetes, including cluster management, deployment, and scaling
Proficiency in Go programming language, including Go frameworks and libraries
Proficiency in Python programming language, including Python frameworks and libraries (e.g. Django, Flask)
Experience with API development, including RESTful APIs and API gateways
Strong understanding of cloud-native architecture and design patterns
Experience with containerization using Docker and container orchestration using Kubernetes
Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues
Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams

Experience with HPC technologies such as OpenMP, MPI, and GPU acceleration
Knowledge of HPC workflow management systems such as Slurm, PBS, or Grid Engine
Experience with HPC storage solutions such as Lustre, GPFS, or Ceph
