• Advanced experience in designing, writing program code, testing, documenting, and implementing functionally appropriate, technically sound, and well-integrated application systems in accordance with Customer requirements, organizational methodologies, and standards. Identifies and prevents production problems and implement immediate resolution efforts across technology areas. Mentoring Software Engineers, holistic vision of organization and impact, focusing on “shift left” activities.• We’re looking for an experienced and passionate iOS engineer to join the iOS platform team. You will be a core contributor to the code base, and you will also help mentor other engineers and have a large influence on important technical decisions. Our Mobile team builds products and features that drive the core experience on the Southwest Airlines mobile application. This position will play a key role in building and supporting mobile features. In this role there will be opportunity to work across different development stacks and influence product decisions. Responsibilities• Design and build intuitive features to improve the experience of the iOS platform using latest Swift and latest XCode• Work closely with our Digital Experience Team to conceptualize, develop and launch new and innovative features• Work with the Team to promote best practices and ensure a high quality bar is maintained• Improve the mobile codebase by working on foundational issues and helping to rearchitect, as necessary• Carry out code reviews to guarantee code quality• Promote robust and maintainable code, clear documentation, and deliver high quality work on a tight schedule• Promote a continuous improvement mindset and partner with Tech Leads and Solutions Architects to ensure continuous improvement in our native apps • Drive the technical direction and feature roadmap of large-scale cloud systems• Serve as a technical lead contributing to and directing the efforts of development teams, including internal and external team members• Determines operational feasibility by evaluating analysis, problem definition, requirements, solution development, and proposed solutions• Drives detailed definition of feature requirements through discussions with product managers and customers• Supports continuous improvement by investigating alternatives and new technologies• Prepares and installs solutions by determining and designing system specifications, standards, and programming• Evaluates code to ensure that it is valid, is properly structured, meets industry standards, and is compatible with browsers, devices, or operating systems• Mentor Software Engineers to allow for skill/knowledge development through advice, coaching, and training opportunities• Update job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art development tools, programming techniques and computing equipment; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations• May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities• Extensive knowledge of iOS technologies such as SwiftUI, Objective-C, Cocoa, Combine and RxSwift• Strong understanding of software development principles, capabilities, and limitations of iOS platform• Utilize MVVM design pattern and development best practices• Ability to understand and debug large and complex native application code bases• Experience working on complex systems with a large customer base• Quality-first mindset with an emphasis on designing features with testability as a pre-requisite• Experience with and passion for Unit Testing and Code Coverage tools (ex. XCTest)• Advanced source control skills (branching and versioning, pull requests, merge conflict resolution, code reviews)• Security and encryption principles (e.g., biometrics, RSA, SqlCypher, SecureAuth or Ping) is a plus
