Backend Developer

Backend Developer - Remote in EuropeWe're looking for a developer interested in writing and running the mission-critical collaboration and media import/conversion services of Prezi and building forward-thinking web experiences and interactions for our users. In this role, you’ll have the opportunity to work with a grown up start-up, building things millions of people will see every day. You will experience and experiment with new technologies and work with a group of people whom you can learn from and keep pushing things forward. Interest in learning Scala is required. We are a virtual-first employer with main hubs in the EU and US, we have employees around the globe. This is a remote role and you can work from anywhere within Europe. You'll report to Jose Roca, VP of Product & Engineering. You should be excited about:Working on high performance backend services for document and media asset processingDealing with multiple, different technical stacks and languagesHaving end-to-end responsibility for features across different componentsThinking like a functional programmerWorking in a challenging, fast-paced and always changing the environmentChallenges you will be working on:Participate in building a microservice architecture which scales, routes around failure and lets us build complex systems out of small components as well as maintain existing web applicationsRun everything in the cloud (AWS)Solve complex cross-stack architectural problemsCreate libraries and services for other teamsDevelop and maintain existing backend services (mostly written in Scala and Python) to ensure they are efficient, reliable and secure enough for our many million usersRethink the assumptions that no longer hold in our current architectureParticipating in on-call rotations to react swiftly to any critical issuesWork with exciting AI models to improve our user's editing experienceIf you have…Interest working with typed functional programming (e.g. Scala, Haskell, F#, Ocaml etc.)Experience with static typed languages (e.g. Java, C#, C++)Knowledge of algorithms, data structuresPassion for clean, maintainable codeA keen interest in AI and its applicationsBachelor's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering – or equivalent work experienceGreat communication skills in EnglishAbility & willingness to learn fast and pick up new things easily...then we would love to talk to you/
