Trigyn has a contractual opportunity for a Geospatial Backend Specialist. Preference for candidates in Namibia but the client is flexible with the candidate being remote and travel on-site as and when required.
Job Description:
The Geospatial Backend Specialist shall support the project “Just transitions in vulnerable places – digital solutions for climate resilient informal areas and climate-smart urban recovery of communities affected by crisis” in their efforts to developing map-based web applications and urban data platforms for evidence-based and participatory decision making in line with the Sustainable Development Goals and the New Urban Agenda, focusing on communities in Namibia.
Scope of Work:
- Design and implement server-side logic for urban planning and decision-making applications.- Develop and maintain databases to store and manage various types of urban data, including spatial, statistical, and citizen-generated data.- Ensure efficient data flow between the frontend and backend systems, optimizing for speed and scalability.- Implement data analysis and simulation tools for urban planning, including geo-referenced data analysis.- Develop APIs for data retrieval, manipulation, and exchange.Collaborate with frontend developer to integrate data visualization and public participation features.- Maintain data security and privacy standards in accordance with legal and ethical guidelines.- Continuously assess and incorporate new technologies and methodologies to enhance application performance and capabilities.
Competencies:Bachelor's or higher degree, in Computer Science or a directly related field or its equivalent in education and/or work experience.
Experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in software development, with experience setting up middleware and backend for Geospatial projects.- Proficient in backend programming languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Node.js) and spatial database technologies (e.g., MapServer, PostGIS, GeoServer).- Expertise in GIS software (QGIS, ArcGIS, Leaflet, GeoNode etc..,), and data formats (e.g., SHP, JSON, KMZ, OSM).- Knowledge of data analysis and simulation techniques.- Familiarity with cloud services (e.g., AWS, Azure, Docker) and server management.- Experience with developing scalable and secure applications.- Experience with backend frameworks such as GeoDjango and open-source packages for Geospatial analysis such as GeoPandas, GeoSpark etc.,- Good experience with CI/CD workflows using tools such as Jenkins.- Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and an interest in finding technical and innovative solutions for urban development issues.- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, contributing to an agile development process and interacting with frontend developers, data scientist, and other team members.- Someone based in Namibia is highly desirable.
