Backend Developer, Senior

Reporting to the Payload Planner lead, our client is looking for an innovative and experienced Backend Developer. As part of a cross-functional team deployed around Agile Scrum, you will be designing, developing, and supporting satellite planning and tasking software. Your responsibilities will include software development, testing, analyzing data, and contributing to the design and implementation of the software. Overall, you have an excellent knowledge of data structures, databases, streaming pipelines and a strong motivation in tackling the important environmental issues that our planet faces today.

ResponsibilitiesDevelop tools and applications to improve the workflow of satellite planning and tasking activitiesEvaluate, deploy, develop, integrate, test and maintain databases, data transformation frameworks and APIsOptimize data structures, schema, queries for most frequent usageDevelop, test, integrate, and deploy backend stackDesign System Architecture collectively with the team, revisit regularlyMaintain and ensure High Availability of the organization’s data platformFollow emerging technologies, suggest new initiativesCollaborate with DevOps, Frontend, Backend and Fullstack developers

Required skillsStrong computational science or software development skillsProven capability with: Linux, PythonMust be capable of understanding, interpreting and analyzing remote sensing dataCompetence with databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB)Experience with Docker and Kubernetes (k8s) – Nice to haveExperience with CI/CD (e.g. ARGO, Jenkins, etc..) – Nice to haveExperience with Frontend (TypeScript, React) – Nice to haveAbility to work autonomously, with minimum direction

AssetsInterest in scientific analysis, atmospheric sciences, remote sensing and space technologyUnderstanding of satellite operations or similar fieldExperience with GIS and Mapping apps (Mapbox, Leaflet, GeoJSON, GeoTIFF)

QualificationsBachelor or Master degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related fieldMinimum of 5 years’ experience in relevant rolesAble to obtain Canadian government security clearanceFluent in French and English
