AS400 RPG Developer - Contract

Position Title: AS400 RPG Developer

Overview: The AS400 RPG Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining applications on the AS400 platform using RPG IV. This role involves working closely with business analysts, end-users, and other developers to gather requirements, develop solutions, and ensure the delivery of high-quality software that meets the needs of the business. The developer will work off-shore with a required overlap of 4 hours with Eastern Time Zone (ET) to facilitate communication and collaboration.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Requirements Gathering: Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to gather and analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.

• Application Development: Design, develop, test, and deploy AS400 applications using RPG, RPGLE, CL, and other relevant languages and tools.

• System Maintenance: Maintain and enhance existing AS400 applications to improve functionality, fix issues, and ensure optimal performance.

• Code Review and Testing: Conduct code reviews, write unit tests, and participate in system testing to ensure the reliability and quality of the applications.

• Documentation: Create and maintain technical documentation for all developed applications and systems, ensuring clear and accurate records of system design and functionality.

• Support: Provide technical support and troubleshooting for AS400 applications, resolving issues promptly to minimize downtime and disruption.

• Performance Optimization: Analyze system performance and implement improvements to optimize efficiency and scalability.

• Compliance and Security: Ensure that all applications comply with industry standards, company policies, and security requirements.

Experience:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience in AS400 application development using RPG, RPGLE, CL.

• Strong SQL experience is a must.

• Experience with database design and management on the AS400 platform (DB2 for iSeries).

• Strong understanding of hierarchical databases

• Familiarity with integrated development environments (IDEs) for AS400

• Experience with web services and APIs on the AS400 platform is a plus.

Nice to have Qualifications.

• Knowledge of Java

• Knowledge of OpenText technologies

• Familiarity with JD Edwards ERP

• Understanding of EDI data exchange

• Experience in the distribution business.
