Position: Non-Paid Volunteer WordPress Developer
We’re looking for an experienced Web Developer to join the CLENT Africa Web team. You will be part of a small team with a large amount of ownership and responsibility for setting best practices and raising the bar for CLENT Africa’s web presence.
The ideal candidate will be proficient in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Web Components, and/or building Lightning Web Components. You will be responsible for ensuring our applications are not only visually appealing and user-friendly but also accessible to users of all abilities. You will also build out A/B tests to continuously optimize conversion rates. You’ll work closely with our content strategists, analysts, designers, product managers, disability & gender equality, and various internal and external stakeholders, owning a large part of the process from problem solving to shipping the solution. You’ll also own full operational control over our CMS system and A/B testing platform, including monitoring, updates, integrations, process improvement, localization platforms, and so on.
Responsibilities
Installation and Setup:Install and set up the WordPress platform, designing and implementing new features and functionalities.Customization and Integration:Customize and integrate WordPress themes and plugins to meet company needs. Excellent knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.Design and implement new features and functionality on WordPress websites.Experience with version control systems – GitGitHub for code management and reviewContinuous integration via JenkinsWebsite Optimization:Optimize the website for speed and scalability.Ensure the website is mobile responsive and cross-browser compatible.Ensure high performance and availability of WordPress sites.UI/UX Collaboration:Collaborate with our team to define and implement the website's UI/UX.Work cross-functionally with various stakeholders to create, update, and ship new web content and features.Comfortable working with design prototyping tools, such as Sketch, InVision or Figma (we use Figma)Content Management:Regularly update the website's content and design to keep it fresh and engaging.Provide training to the internal team for managing and updating the website.Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:Troubleshoot and resolve website issues and bugs in a timely manner.Develop solutions for both simple and complex problems, including A/B testing and localizing the website in multiple languages.Technology and Infrastructure:Champion new web technologies and infrastructure.Scale our website infrastructure to meet internal and external demands.Monitoring and Reporting:Monitor and report on website KPIs, providing actionable insights.Industry Trends:Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends, tools, and technologies related to WordPress development.
Requirements
Proven experience as a WordPress developer with a strong portfolio of work.Excellent knowledge of HTML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript. Understanding of modern Javascript frameworks, CSS preprocessors, and build processes.Experience with version control systems – Git & GitHub for code management and reviewContinuous integration via JenkinsExperience implementing best practices around SEO and accessibility on a website. Comprehension of web accessibility guidelines (WCAG).Experience collaborating with Design teams to provide a best-in-class user experienceExcellent problem-solving and debugging skills.Comfortable working with design prototyping tools, such as Sketch, InVision or Figma (we use Figma)Comfortable managing complex projects with tight deadlinesExcellent communication skills with great documentationStrong sense of ownershipExperience in managing external vendors and driving website related projects
