At kaiika we are developing data-driven software solutions for Power Electronics. Our vision is to push forward towards a new era of engineering solutions. We are a small team from RWTH-Aachen University with a passion for power electronics, control engineering and machine learning. While working in research and industry, we discovered that many engineering tasks can be accelerated and automated using AI. Over the past 2 years, we have constantly been forging this insight into an idea and vision for a business. Currently, we are working on our first software solution, coala. You are passionate about driving your own ideas, and working in a young start-up securely contracted by RWTH Aachen University under a service contract? If you have experience in the following fields, this job offer is for you:

Backend development using Python and Django.Database set-up and maintenance for user-specific data storage.Testing and documentation of functionalities to ensure quality.

What awaits you:

Onboarding and Setup: 2 weeksInitial Backend Overhaul: 2 weeksAPI Framework Alignment: 1 monthCurrent Situation: Multiple API frameworks (Flask, FastAPI, Django) are used in different backend parts.Task: Reduce the number of frameworks to enhance developer friendliness.Validation and HTTP Status Codes: 1 monthCurrent Situation: Developers lack clarity on request formats to API endpoints and wrong HTTP status codes are returned to requests.Task: Select and implement a method for validating HTTP requests.User Authentication and Login: 1 monthCurrent Situation: No existing user authentication system.Task: Set up an authentication service and a database to secure login data.User Progress and Upload Storage: 1 monthCurrent Situation: Users need to save progress and uploads across sessions.Task: Choose and set up a service to store progress and uploads between sessions.Runtime Improvement: 1 monthCurrent Situation: New functionalities often introduce inefficiencies.Task: Identify and improve backend performance bottlenecks.

Your Profile:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field. Proficiency in Python, Django, and API frameworks.Experience with databases (MongoDB or MySQL).Basic knowledge of JS and React to make minor adjustments in the frontendFurther experience with web development, Docker, Git, and Linux-based OS is a plus.Strong team-oriented mindset and communication skills.
