INFORMATION DEVELOPER
Location: New York City, Hybrid Remote, or Remote within the USWe have an office in NYC and this position can be based in the office, hybrid remote, or remote within the US (subject to your existing legal right to work in the jurisdiction). Work hours are based on the Eastern time zone, to facilitate working with staff in the UK and Europe.
About the Role
Here™ is hiring for an Information Developer to join our team! In this role, you will produce technical product documentation to help end-users and administrators use and configure the Here™ enterprise browser product. In addition, you will help developers build applications that leverage the foundational JavaScript libraries (under the OpenFin brand). We are looking for a programmer-turned-writer or a very techie technical writer to substantially own and drive projects to develop new information resources or to improve existing ones.
Responsibilities
Work independently to plan, create, edit, and produce accurate and effective technical documentation that enhances customers' experience by providing just the information that they need, when they need it.Write conceptual guides for Here/OpenFin features and technologies.Write example code snippets that demonstrate recommended uses of library APIs.Make complex concepts clear and meaningful for our audiences.Maintain and improve legacy documentation.Collaborate across the organization, including with product management, engineering, sales, and support, to understand audiences’ needs for information, to develop information deliverables to address those needs, and to ensure the accuracy of the content.Communicate with stakeholders regarding prioritization and progress of documentation projects.Contribute your expertise to recommend and help implement enhancements to documentation infrastructure, standards, and processes.Provide peer editing and coaching about writing to non-writer team members who contribute to documentation.Help define metrics for documentation and use a data-driven approach to prioritize and drive improvements.
What We’re Looking For
Required qualifications -
Impeccable written and excellent interpersonal communication skills.Five or more years of experience in technical writing, with a strong emphasis on developer audiences.A writing portfolio that shows off your strong technical writing skills through developer-focussed samples.Projects that demonstrate your ability to write code examples.Experience with docs-as-code approaches to documentation using Git, GitHub or GitLab, Markdown, and any static site generator.
Preferred qualifications -
Academic training in professional writing, software development, or a related field.Experience with JavaScript, or better yet, TypeScript; experience with other programming languages (C#, C++, Java) is also helpful.More than four years of working on a distributed team.Experience working in a startup environment.
