The Senior BI Developer role is crucial for driving data-driven decision-making within our growing retail organization. As a Senior BI Developer, you will be responsible for leading projects including the design, development, and maintenance of business intelligence solutions that empower our business stakeholders to make informed decisions.
Responsibilities:
Leading Solution Design and Requirements Gathering: Collaborating with business stakeholders to gather and translate requirements into effective BI solutions. Understanding and translating those requirements to more junior members of the team.Designing, Developing, and Maintaining BI Reports: Creating and maintaining BI reports, dashboards, and data visualizations using various BI tools and platforms, including Tableau. Responsible for setting best practices in these areas and coaching junior members.Ensuring Data Accuracy and Reliability: Performing data quality checks, troubleshooting data issues, and resolving discrepancies. Supporting other teams to ensure their data quality is visible and easily monitored.Analyzing Complex Data Sets: Interpreting complex data sets to identify trends, patterns, and actionable insights. Delivering leading-edge insights to drive business success in relevant focus areas.Providing End-User Training and Support: Training and supporting end-users on BI tools and solutions to ensure successful adoption and usage. Upskilling junior members of the team to a mid-weight level.Continuous Improvement: Continuously evaluating and improving BI processes and solutions to meet evolving business needs. Leading team meetings to drive continuous change and deliver feedback to the wider data team.
Accountabilities:
Timely and Accurate Delivery: Ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of BI reports, dashboards, and data visualizations to meet business requirements.Data Layer Quality: Maintaining the robustness and quality of the organization’s “Gold” and “Semantic” data layers.Data Quality and Integrity: Ensuring data quality and integrity in BI solutions for yourself and more junior members of the team.Compliance: Ensuring compliance with data privacy and security standards. Helping to understand and define how these impact the company.Enhancing Data-Driven Decision-Making: Continuously enhancing the organization’s data-driven decision-making capabilities.
Essential Skills and Experience:
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in BI Development, preferably within the retail industry.Technical Proficiency: Strong proficiency in SQL, data modeling concepts, and Kubernetes.BI Tools: Extensive experience working with BI tools such as Tableau and Power BI.Stakeholder Collaboration: Demonstrated ability to collaborate with stakeholders across all levels of the organization (technical/non-technical) as well as with external partners.Data Analysis: Proven ability to analyze and interpret complex data sets.Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and vice versa.Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.Stakeholder Management: Excellent stakeholder management abilities.Coaching: Ability to coach junior members of the team.
