Software Engineer: Senior CPython Core Developer

Quansight has its roots in the Python data science community. Our founders have had significant involvement in creating and maintaining NumPy, SciPy, Jupyter, Spyder, Dask, Conda, Numba, and other projects, as well as PyData NumFOCUS, and Anaconda. Our mission is to connect companies to open-source communities to create sustainable solutions that benefit the whole ecosystem.

Quansight is looking to find a full-time remote CPython core developer to join our team of data science and engineering professionals and open source maintainers and experts. We are also open to a part-time or contracting role.

What you'll do

A core part of this position will involve contributing to CPython and helping improve and maintain CPython itself and other key open source projects in the Python ecosystem, with an initial focus on improving free-threading in CPython.

In this position, you'll get to:

Contribute to CPython and other important open-source projectsUse C, C++, Python, compiler technology, Python C API binding generators, and possibly other languages like CUDA, Rust, and CythonWork with modern numerical computing and deep learning technologyDevelop new features, work on performance enhancements and help maintain code with millions of usersDrive fruitful conversations around technical issues, engineering practices, and community processes, and suggest improvements and ideas as you encounter themReview code and provide thoughtful, constructive feedback during code reviewsInteract with community members and with clients from both industry and academiaCollaborate with, learn from, and mentor team membersBe a part of the Python community

For this role, you must already be part of the CPython core development team and have in-depth knowledge of CPython internals and usage of the CPython C API. We also highly value good communication skills. Knowledge of numerical computing and deep learning is beneficial but not required.

Where can we hire?

Our engineering team is entirely remote. Our headquarters are in Austin, Texas, and a good portion of our team is U.S. based. We also have a significant presence in Europe, South America, and Asia. We will consider applicants anywhere (overlap with U.S. and Europe time zones is preferred).
