Senior Software Engineer - Developer Environments

As Developer Productivity engineers we remove friction and focus on delivering compounding leverage across the entire software development lifecycle. Our mission is to enable Discord to seamlessly scale to thousands of engineers and beyond while improving autonomy, velocity, and reliability.

What You'll Be Doing

Collaborating closely with Infrastructure and product teams, learning their pain points, and removing friction from iteration loops. Providing fast and stable builds across our entire tech stack using tools like Bazel, Docker, Nix, and K8s. Building the core libraries and frameworks that provide a unified tooling ecosystem. Improving our existing build, test, and deploy tools or building them from the ground up. Pioneering and improving our remote and container-based development environments using K8s, docker, and other open source projects. Building our next-generation continuous integration and continuous delivery systems. Automating all of the things!

What You Should Have

5+ years of relevant experience. Proficiency and experience with CI and infrastructure technologies such as Github Actions, Buildkite, Docker, Kubernetes, Packer, and Terraform. Knowledge of operating systems and the software ecosystems that surround them. Experience working on a variety of areas ranging from backend infrastructure and systems programming to full stack projects. A passion for building tools that help others succeed. Ability to context switch and focus on small and large problems.

Bonus Points

Interest or experience with build tools like Bazel, Buck, and Nix. Experience with DevOps tools like Salt or Chef and cloud providers like Google Cloud Platform or AWS. You have built open source software integrated by other developers. You obsess over and nerd out over your own development workflow (keyboards, dotfiles, editors, window managers, etc.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $190,000 to $204,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include equity, or benefits.
